The “three martini lunch” is a thing of the past…the way, way, way distant past. And that’s all for the good; I doubt any responsible executive would seriously want to return to those days.
But there are times when scarfing down a sandwich at your desk or queuing up for quinoa, to be “enjoyed” at a counter just doesn’t cut it on the lunch front. Maybe you want to celebrate a business coup, confer with a client, or simply linger over lunch with a long-lost friend. That’s when you should head to our neighborhood’s newest restaurant, Mirabelle at 900 16th Street, NW.
Mirabelle makes you nostalgic for days when the mid-day meal was as special as dinner. Reminiscent of a bygone era, the décor is “moneyed,” with gleaming brass fixtures and buttery-soft leather chairs. It’s a setting that says, “you’re important, and you’re going to be treated that way.”
The menu, prepared by former White House Chef Frank Ruta, shows a touch of nostalgia as well: American classics with a French twist. There are interesting French and American wine selections, and…should you care to dip your toe into that “three martini past…” a tempting selection of cocktails, brandies, and liqueurs, presented tableside on chic carts.
At the moment, Mirabelle is focused solely on lunches. Plans are afoot to add brunch, lunch, and dinner to the repertoire.
