It’s beyond wonderful to welcome clients we have not seen March of last year. As the city begins to emerge, so does the desire for fresh starts…and with very few exceptions, we’re being asked to give our clients “something new.”
Whether you’re returning to the office, starting to fill out your dance card, or simply looking to update your visage on Zoom, here are some of the styles making the cut this spring. Your stylists can help you chose the one that’s right for you!
Long Layers
Maybe you’ve enjoyed growing out your hair but are looking to refresh your look. Andre loves cutting layers into longer hair, adding movement and dimension. Longer layers are surprisingly easy to work with: wear them “undone” and air-dried for a lived-in look or blow them out for a sleeker style.
Bouncy, Face-Framing Layers
If you’re ready to clip some length, shorter, face-framing layers may be for you. This look was popular on the S/S runways, frequently paired with curtain bangs for a ‘60s vibe.
Curtain Bangs
Welcome the “return to normal” with a bang! Curtain bangs are one of the hottest trends on TikTok and IG, and no wonder! Longer than traditional bangs, face-framing curtain bangs are relatively low-maintenance and, should you want to change things up, they can be blended into your hair while you grow them out.
Blunt Fringe
These are the bangs that some of us cringe to recall from our elementary school photos. The problem then was that parents assumed they could DIY our haircuts! Now we know better: cutting blunt fringe is best left to professional stylists. Likewise, upkeep requires commitment, or you’ll end up bangs that will drive you crazy. Andre loves the edgy, cool-kid vibe of blunt fringe, and pairs them with ultra-long styles as well as architectural bobs. Perfect for clients who want to make a statement!
Super Soft Fringe
I call these “bridge bangs,” because they’re the perfect transition for someone who wants to try bangs, without going to extremes. Barely-there fringe will give you a soft, face-framing look, without the commitment of an all-out bang.
Long Shags
Think Taylor Swift. Think Ana Faris. Or flash back to Meg Ryan and Joan Jett. Shaggy layers are perennially popular, due to their subtle rock-chick vibe. I love the lived-in look of this wash-and-wear style.
Curly Shags
You’ve seen it on everyone from Rod Stewart to Michelle Obama: the curly shag never really goes out of style. Curly haired clients love the texture and movement of this look, which can be amped up with wild curls or chilled out with loose waves. Either way, it’s darn sexy!
Shaggy Bobs
Before quarantine, you and I were all about the bob. Now, we’re looking to add a bit of oomph to that style. With its feathery layers, low-maintenance texture, and soft, choppy ends, the shaggy bob is not quite a pixie – it’s shorter and swingy-er than the shags discussed above.
The Grown-out, Grown-up Pixie
Are you wedded to a shorter style, but ready to shake things up a bit? This style can be transformational, with its ultra-soft hairline and longer, face-framing pieces. Wear it slicked-back, tucked behind your ear, or swept forward…this “next-step” pixie cut is fresh and summer ready!
